The Department of Economics at the Delhi School of Economics is one of the best in the country. We have the largest Master's programme in the country (and, possibly, anywhere in the world).

So, whether it is an investment bank or a financial newspaper, anyone requiring some depth in economic matters looks for a graduate from the Department.
It is therefore not surprising at all that the Placement Cell has been a resounding success. It is only a matter of time before other employers (who are clinging on to the outdated notion of hiring generalists) come flocking to us.
The Department of Economics Delhi School of Economics is a world famous institution known for quality teaching and research. On the occasion of The Golden Jubilee of the Delhi School of Economics in 2006, Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh observed, ”This is no ordinary temple of learning. For many of us who have devoted our lives to the study and pursuit of Economics, this is the ultimate sanctum sanctorum of Indian economics. For generations young men and women have dreamt of being here....”

Campus recruitment programmes are organized for summer internship and final placement. The Placement Cell also organizes workshops on personality development and seminars by eminent speakers from the corporate world. It is a pleasure to welcome you to the Placement Programme of the Department of Economics, Delhi School of Economics, for Placements 2009-10. The Placement Programme of the Department of Economics recently completed ten years of its existence. Since its inception ten years ago in 1998-99, it has both benefited from and facilitated the interaction between our students and industry. Its success in the last decade can be attributed to the synergy between the department and the corporate sector, and the fact that the skill set and domain knowledge of our students are much sought after in the corporate world. |
With the exception of last year when we faced a slowdown due to the global recession, in the past few years the placement rate has been almost 100%. Our students have been placed in diverse areas such as economic research, finance, acroeconomic modelling, policy making, sales and marketing, analytics, insurance, risk and investment analysis, banking, consultancy, economic and financial journalism and the media. Without doubt, our students are amongst the finest budding economists in the country, and have carved a niche for themselves in various avenues.
Of course, much can be said about the training imparted in the Department of Economics, Delhi School of Economics, which is well-known for its emphasis on academic excellence. With its stringent selection procedures, it recruits the best students from all over India. The students are rigorously trained in the theoretical and applied aspects of economics and are thus well-equipped to handle analytical as well as quantitative issues that help them to meet the challenges of the corporate and financial world. In a nutshell, the department takes the best, trains the best, and produces the best.
As we now plan for and progress towards the next decade of the Placement Programme, I am confident that the synergies between the department and industry will strengthen further, and that we can look forward to a mutually rewarding placement exercise.
