It is a pleasure to welcome you to the Placement Programme of the Department of Economics, Delhi School of Economics, for Placements 2010-11.

The Placement Programme of the Department of Economics is now in its twelfth year. Since its inception, it has both benefited from and facilitated the interaction between our students and industry. Its success can be attributed to the synergy between the department and the corporate sector, and the fact that the skill set and domain knowledge of our students are much sought after in the corporate world.

In the past few years the placement rate has been close to 100%. Our students have been placed in diverse areas such as economic research, finance, macroeconomic modelling, policy making, sales and marketing, analytics, insurance, risk and investment analysis, banking, consultancy, economic and financial journalism and the media. Without doubt, our students are amongst the finest budding economists in the country, and have carved a niche for themselves in various avenues.

Of course, much can be said about the training imparted in the Department of Economics, Delhi School of Economics, which is well-known for its emphasis on academic excellence. With its stringent selection procedures, it recruits the best students from all over India. The students are rigorously trained in the theoretical and applied aspects of economics and are thus well-equipped to handle analytical as well as quantitative issues that help them to meet the challenges of the corporate and financial world. In a nutshell, the department takes the best, trains the best, and produces the best.

I am confident that the synergies between the department and industry will strengthen further over the years and that we can look forward to a mutually rewarding placement exercise.
